Experience the art, poetry, and performance of the art world's newest and most controversial art movement to date. For it has been scientifically proven to balance the electromagnetic frequencies of healing in whatever environment it is placed. The pilot study using brain-scan technology at one of the world's premiere physics labs was completed at Arizona State University with results that have left scientists and doctors baffled, mystified, and pleasantly surprised that the art itself seems to emit unusual healing frequencies and energies.
According to the artist, he has hidden "energy encoders in the art using a modern twist on an ancient secret." Although the artist quickly dismisses claims that he is a 21st Century living member of the notorious Illuminati group -- popularized by the blockbuster bestseller "The Da Vinci Code" and who allegedly placed the "Keys to Heaven" and spiritual enlightenment in some artworks, most notably the Mona Lisa -- several of today's world-renowned scientists, doctors, and energy - medical professionals think it's VERY probable that this artist's work is of that same caliber of "very powerful healing, spiritual energy."
A film is now in production documenting the artist, the science, the magic and the mystery behind these highly unusual works. The first official "unveiling" of the artist's work was held on June 8, 2006 at the Portland Art Museum, hailed as "COMPANIONISM: The World Premiere of a New Art Movement for the 21st Century!" The performance, starring David Scotland, Tucker Smallwood, and Jana Cole, took place LIVE in front of an audience who had the privilege of seeing -- for the first time in art history -- this incredible artist paint three works demonstrating his method he calls "Quantum Aesthetics" for which he spent one full week in silent meditation, tapping into the "OM" zone and not re-emerging into "the world" until the performance was finished.
The New Art Movement, as described by the artist, is an action and not merely a philosophy. As an action that has only a reaction of "goodness" to it (which has now been proven by Arizona State University), the artist has begun something highly controversial to the art world, and some traditional art crtitics and collectors have already turned away from this "first" for the art world. But then again, isn't that how all the greats were made?
For the artist, the movement's controversy isn't the point. To him, COMPANIONISM means paying attention to the absolute fact that we share an electromagnetic oneness, together, regardless of whether we know it or not, whether we like it or not, whether we believe it or not. This movement is about paying heed to the laws of the universe that transcend all mankind's false notions of what he would rather reality be -- COMPANIONISM is about the realization that only love is real, only oneness is real, and it's time to live as one, to work FOR each other, rather than against each other. This, the artist hopes, will hope call attention to a new era of peace and wellbeing on the planet.
A special-edition DVD of the World Premiere performance of Companionism is reportedly in the works showing the performances of David Scotland, Jana Cole, and Tucker Smallwood, and of course the art. Producers hope to include such DVD-extras as interviews with key art patrons, collectors, scientists, and more. Stay tuned! The Story of David Scotland
As
an award-winning Renaissance Man, David Geoffrey Scotland is an artist,
author, composer, and performer. He is also recognized as the father
and founder of the 21st Century art movements called "Companionism" and
"Quantum Aesthetics" in which pieces have an energetic "companion" or
"companions" created for them to compliment them and to complete "the
circle of electrical oneness we all share." A companion is an energetic
piece that accompanies another.
This idea of pieces "sharing" a commonality is directly related to the artist's own personal philosophy of "helping the person in front of you. Be their companion in some way that does no harm. We live together, share the same resources, the same emotions, the same planet. It's time to recognize the physics of what art is actually doing to us, to realize the truth and value of healing electrical frequencies that resonate at the soul level, the level of faith, to help create a better world for all of us. My intention is to extend this science to others through my art with my sincere hope that it changes lives for the better. Everyone needs this kind of companionism. For me, who cares how 'good' art looks if it doesn't DO any good. I want to create good art -- quantum art -- that does good.
David also says that the actual physics of Companionism directly corresponds to the ground-breaking work of David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D., in that the art of Companionism is meant to actually help positively empower and heal the observer of it based on orthomolecular psychiatric dynamics and kinesiologic testing as per Dr. Hawkins calibrated "Map of Human Consciousness."
For the
artist, companionism is more of a verb than a noun. "Companionism is
something we do. The art is representational of this energetic dynamic,
but it is also the dynamic itself. Literally. I could care less about
stuffy philosophies from tired artworld mags. I'm interested in
energetic aesthetics -- the physics of what the art is actually doing
in the world, how it responds to and interacts with humanity. I am
constantly wondering: 'Can art actually contribute to -- rather than
take away from -- this world? Can art do something besides being an
impetus for vacuous art philosophies, and 'suffering' artists' tirades
and spectacles of death and destruction?' I think it can. In fact, I've
seen how art can change lives for the better."
It's no
secret that this idea of artworks sharing, harmonizing, and healing is
directly related to the artist's personal worldview and spiritual
practice of consciously intending to resonate at higher, healing
frequencies. One way to do this, he says, is to "help the person in
front of you. Be their companion in some way that does no harm, that
actually lifts their frequency rather than destroys it. We live
together, share the same resources, the same energies, the same planet.
It's time to recognize that on a mass scale and stop being obsessed
only with competing against each other. Instead, why not create actual
good and healing frequencies with and for each other, and drop the
moralizing that's been as hideous and deadly as the history of
religion. My intention is to extend this science of frequencies to
others through my art with my sincere hope that it changes lives for
the better. Everyone needs this kind of companionism. For me, who cares
how 'good' art looks if it doesn't DO any good. I want to create good
art that does good -- I want to create art that actually empowers and
heals humanity."
As the founder of Companionism, David has embarked on a national crusade and has committed himself to a mission of serving others and helping charitable causes. This inspiring way of life began with a small bakery in his hometown while working his way through school. He organized a program that gave day-old bakery food to the local homeless shelter, exposing him to the plight of the poor and marking a turning point in his life. He offered relief to the hungry by producing a benefit concert/fund raiser for the Clark County Council for the Homeless in Vancouver, Washington. The benefit featured solo piano performances by Scotland and vocal and instrumental performances by both his parents. His talented family raised over $4,000 in cash and helped donate over two full pallets of canned food to local homeless shelters.
Since then, Scotland has studied a wide range of
various religious and spiritual paths, and continued creating and
making art, music, poetry, and film projects. He was seeking "the
Truth" about humanity and discovered that within mankind's inhumanity
to mankind, there is another way out of the insanity. A way of peace,
goodness, light, and self-empowerment guided by the Universe, or God,
or whichever name works best for you. He calls it by both. In fact, he
called upon the Universe to help him with a disturbing wake up call
that visited him at the age of 26. Nobody knows how they
would react IF they ever heard the words "You have ten years to live,"
and David Scotland was no exception. He was stunned into silence at 26
years old when his oncologist diagnosed him with a rare blood disorder
called polycythemia -- the cancerous overproduction of red blood cells
that often results in short life spans.
For the first few years after the diagnosis, the artist would have to wait for his test results every year that would determine how much longer he had to live. What is truly remarkable, however, is that the horrifying cycle never deterred him from his mission in life.
Says Scotland, "My mission was focused on life, and the eternal meaning of that life. I knew from the laws of physics that energy can neither be created nor destroyed but it can change form. So I just figured that if the bulls and the bees don't get all these human diseases, then maybe this movie we call life isn't what most people think it is. In fact, I think most of what all of us are taught is a lie. And then when I saw the truth of that fact, it set me on fire. Literally! I began an intense study of yoga, never did chemotherapy or any anti-cancer drugs, found out that mind-over-matter really does work, and the cancer disappeared. And I found out a lot about myself, this man-made world we live in on God's planet."
David Scotland sees his life as an opportunity and
a privilege to share his capacity for creative energy (rather than
destructive forces) with people who respond well to it. He wants to
lend a hand up, as it were, to those who are looking for peace, love,
wisdom, and healing energies that result from those. He earned a
testimonial from Academy Award-Winning Actress Patricia Neal for his
book "A World Tour of Wisdom" (under his alias, David James) because he told her how inspired he was
by The Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville, Tennessee -- a
city he lived in for two years. Part of the Center's mission was to
provide medical care for those in need regardless of their ability to
pay. To the artist, this was a demonstration of true charity, love, and
wisdom in line with right livelihood.
Scotland says, "I thought that was incredible, to actually take care of people and to love them. Who in Washington even DOES that these days, huh? No one. They settle for the idea -- the words but not the deeds. I pity them because they're trying so hard in their own ways, but they just don't get it. I think all of them don't know what love is much less how to give it. It's apparent in how they talk to people, what they say, and how small their own capacity for unconditional joy is. That's because they're distracted by worldly power and their own survival of that power. I don't think they realize that God does such a much better job at being God than we do. They are consumed and obsessed with all the lower energy stuff that must be transcended before healing, joy, and peace can take place. Before a celebration of hope can occur. Before freedom reigns and not shoddy American politics."
Today, the
artist is busy doing museum shows, private commissions, art and film
projects, and more writing -- all with a common goal of inspiration.
The artist’s passion continues with, “Because so many people need help,
I’m on a mission. It’s why I’m doing all this. I want to help as many
as I can whether that’s through supporting Habitat for Humanity, or
exposing what needs to be fixed in today’s crisis of American schools
and education, consumer debt, healthcare, and other areas. So many
people are being 'killed off' and murdered needlessly whether it’s
through an educational, financial, spiritual, or literal death…and it’s
done entirely by people’s own unwillingness to question what is going
on IN THEMSELVES and then in the world. And those who know better in
government need to stop standing by and watching disaster after
disaster occur to those who can’t help themselves YET. Ethics are
needed now more than ever. Well, there are some answers to help all
that with The Energy of Success business conference exclusively for
ethical entrepreneurs. The experts I chose to present are all ethical
members who see the value and sense of urgency of my art and the movement that inspires it called Companionism”
David’s
art has also undergone scientific studies with prominent scientists and
doctors, most notably by Dr. Sari Suttka, D.C., and President of
Technology for Layers of Light International. Her scientific and
clinical knowledge involving Sports Medicine, Biomechanics,
Herbalphoresis Technique and Applied Kinesiology (AK) has allowed her a
successful practice in applying and adapting such techniques for Energy
Mapping and Energy Balancing. This has allowed her to achieve Optimal
Center of Gravity, and Optimal Center of Energy. Based on her
experience, leadership, and training skills, she has conducted numerous
workshops in Energy Sports Medicine and in Contact Reflex Analysis (as
taught by D. A. Versendaal, D.C.) for Chiropractors and healthcare
physicians, demonstrating the effective use of such techniques. What
does she think of David’s art?
Dr. Suttka says, "People who are energy workers or who can sense energy will be able to literally feel the energy coming out of your paintings, either as a cooling or heating sensation. And basically, David’s art is what we call organizing hues. When we look at what David’s art does to the physical body, we see an increase in flexibility, strength, coordination, endurance and balance. The hues he uses also keep people in a coherent state when exposed to Electro Magnetic Fields from cell phones and other electronic devices. Through energy testing and Applied Kinesiology (AK) testing, we are able to see David’s art shift the brain into higher consciousness known as the theta state. Anyone exposed to an environment where David’s art is being displayed will experience the positive effects of the art and experience energetic states of harmony."
The ongoing studies show not only how people are affected by David’s art, but it is also a first for the artist and the art world itself: “Studies Show David Scotland’s Art is Scientifically Shown to Help Promote Human Healing Because Human Theta Wave Emissions are Positively Affected by the Artist’s Art.” This is but another aspect of what the artist means by “Quantum Aesthetics.”
David's art was recently tested by Arizona State University's physics labs using brain scan technology showing conclusive evidence in a pilot study that his art does indeed have positive healing effects on the viewer. Once again, this study clearly shows that whether the "eye" likes the art or not, the brain definitely loves it -- without a doubt -- because every single brain scan showed that each participant's brain transformed into what is called "complete coherence" immediately upon being exposed to David Scotland's art. His art has been shown in clinical studies to increase the five factors of: balance, strength, coordination, flexibility, and endurance.
The
state of "complete coherence" has also been described in layman's terms
as: the prime state when the human energy system is at its most calm,
awakened, attentive, and perfectly balanced state of peace, love, and
harmony due to increased theta wave production as a result of the brain
moving into complete coherence.
.
Additional positive benefits of the “organizing hues" of David Scotland's art have been that the art has been shown to help viewers:
• Improve Creativity
• Increase Memory Ability
• Reduce Stress
• Improve One's Focus
• Heighten One's Intuition
• Enhance Healing
• Accelerate Learning
• Heighten Physical Performance
• More Easily Access Higher Levels of Consciousness
.
Recently
David Scotland's work has been consistently collected and used in her
fashion designs by notable art patron and Hollywood fashion designer
Sunny Chayes. Ms. Chayes has been the designer of choice for Linda
Rondstadt, Suzanne Sommers, Olivia Newton John, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Cindy
Crawford, Sarah! (exclusive singer for Oprah-Oxygen), Jennifer Nasser
(wife of Jacque Nasser-former CEO of Ford Motor Co.), and Gaylor Rogers
(former Vice President of Pixar). Sunny Chayes has also designed
special collections for Heidi Kuhn, the founder of Roots of Peace, to
wear in front of Congress and the UN, and for special private dinners
with President Bill Clinton, Kofi Annan, Queen Noor, and Princess
Diana. She has also designed custom pieces for Desiree Goyette the Emmy
award winning music composer, Dr. Laura Hessel the notable art curator
and collector, and Brenda Cooper the Emmy award winning stylist,
amongst others.
Chayes designs have been worn, seen, and enormous fashion hits at top society parties, VIP events, awards shows and private affairs such as the Emmys, Oscars, Grammys, Buckingham Palace and four USA Presidential Inagural Celebrations (2 Bush, 2 Clinton). She has designed for both feature films and television. Her collections are now available by appointment only, and have been previously available in highly select boutiques located at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdale's, as well as other boutiques in Australia, Brazil, Canada, and France.
Sunny is also the niece of Joseph Randall Shapiro and her aunt Jory Shapiro. Sunny's "Uncle Joe" was the former President of The Art Institute of Chicago and also the founder of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Sunny's uncle Joe and aunt Jory Shapiro were forever seen holding hands at the art auctions, squeezing each others' hands to signal when they both agreed to bid or buy. They were both recognized by elite patrons of the art world as one of the top three surrealist art collectors in the world. He, Jory, and their museum were patrons of such artists as Marc Chagall, John Baldessari, Joseph Beuys, Alexander Calder, Jean Dubuffet, Marcel Duchamp, Jasper Johns, Franz Kline, Jeff Koons, Barbara Kruger, Sol LeWitt, Rene Magritte, Matta, Robert Morris, Claes Oldenburg, Ad Reinhardt, David Salle, Julian Schnabel, George Segal, Cindy Sherman, Andy Warhol, and Ed Ruscha -- while he "incubated" Chagall, Picasso, Kandinsky, Jean Dubuffet, Matta, Ernst, Magritte, Tanguy, Dali, Miro, Delvaux, and Klee.
Early on, Sunny was exposed to nothing but the top names in the art world as “Uncle Joe” would recount endlessly illuminating stories behind the life and art of each artist he both knew and collected personally. Sunny describes her Uncle Joe as knowing that the secret that binds artists, art collectors, curators and patrons is their commitment to showing the art of the present day with all the risks and benefits that go with the territory. She says, “Uncle Joe knew that great art dealers and collectors do more than simply transact sales. They help nurture, develop, and mentor artists, and then send them out into the world, presenting for all their art, which in turn becomes the art of “their time” because they’re in their prime. The great patrons know the art of incubating the next great ones and also how to maximize not only the talent, but the financial rewards, as well.” In fact, when the late founder of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Joseph Shapiro, was asked by his mother if you could make a living in the art world he replied, “No mother, from this I make a life.” Like her uncle, Sunny Chayes, too, makes her living developing, creating, and presenting her chosen arts: fashion, music, dance, and of course, art itself.
Therefore
it was bound to happen that Sunny, herself, would become a patron of
the arts. In fact, she has already started incubating artist David
Scotland with several of his works comprising part of her private
collection, and well on her way to being one of his top patrons. About
David’s art Sunny says, "The colors, spirituality, and energy of his
work is absolutely phenomenal. Uncle Joe would have loved his art, and
he would have especially loved how David 'spread it around' throughout
the community, allowing others a chance to experience it. I believe
Uncle Joe would have adopted David right away because he has obviously
discovered the mystery and resonance of life and death and how
understanding the intellect can be second to the wisdom of the heart. I
believe David Scotland has found in art how not to make a living of it,
but rather, a life."
Those are but a few of the reasons why the artist is inviting you and others to participate in an effort to share the creative power of the arts with everyone by extending much needed "companions" to those in need.
David
has also
appeared on national radio programs, local TV shows, been a columnist
for Hollywood’s “Box Office Magazine” and has even written a
bestselling book of Wisdom that has been translated in five countries.
His paintings are held in the collections of exclusive art dealers
worldwide including those of Dr. Eugene and Janice Ephron, Sunny
Chayes, Jackie Koop, Robert G. Allen, Mark Victor Hansen, George
Krikorian, Greg Dunn, Kurt Schwenck, Betty Dominguez, and Sascha Siegel
of the Siegel Gallery in Chicago – White House design coordinator for
JFK's Oval Office and personal design coordinator for First Lady Jackie
Kennedy. His corporate commissions are held by Bank One Trust, Albina
Community Bank, Habitat
for Humanity, Meet Me at the Top Corporation (Toronto, Canada), GATES
Foundation, The Broadway Theatre of Vista, CA, Regal Entertainment
Group, Tribune Media, Insight Cinema, Layers of Light International,
Blue Cap Productions, NEC Solutions America, ConMed Corporation, and
San Diego
Children's Hospital.
David has also been involved with
hundreds of corporate and Hollywood VIP charity events including
working with many top stars and organizations like: Dolly Parton, Kevin
Kline, Tricia Yearwood, Danny Thomas, the Kirov Ballet, Japan’s Nihonga
Art Exhibition, The Portland Art Museum, the Patricia Neal
Rehabilitation Center, The Clark County Council for the Homeless,
Habitat for Humanity, David Mirisch Enterprises, The Tony Hawk
Foundation, eWomen Network, Meet Me at the Top, and Layers of Light International. David
was asked by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of greater Los Angeles to
be the premiere artist for their 23rd Annual Par Wars Celebrity Golf
Tournament, and was also the premiere artist for Habitat for Humanity's
2004 fundraising campaign in Portland, Oregon. In July 2005 three
original David Scotland works have been commissioned for the San Diego
Symphony's Summer Pops at the Moonlight Featuring the Three Divas.
The
World Premiere of Companionism was held at The Portland Art Museum with
a VIP Gala event held in the Grand Kridel Ballroom. Scotland painted
LIVE and in person three pieces while his poetry -- written over a span
of ten years while he was diagnosed and later healed of cancer – was
performed by Tucker Smallwood of stage, screen, and TV fame, and
actress Jana Cole. The event was filmed before a live, sold-out
audience on June 8, 2006.

Artist, Art, Science, Patrons...
David Scotland is something of a maverick in the art world. In many cases, he remains unflappably indifferent or sometimes even bored by anyone who tries to interpret his work or hold an opinion about him, including art critics (both "lay" and professional), art historians, patrons, and museum curators. His attitude about art and artmaking is romantic, spiritual, and scientific -- based on physics of light and sound frequencies that have been scientifically proven to heal and rebalance the human energy system when the result is sympathetic resonance. He is also passionate about his work, and he believes that most people are not going to be able to understand what he’s doing or why.
Born in Chicago in 1970, Scotland spent time in Utah, Washington, Tennessee, Arizona, and Oregon before settling in California to live and work. In so doing, he rejected the politics of the art world scene, which has earned him both high praise and vehement criticism with some going so far as to call him a lunatic, a total quack, and full of crap. Still, the artist remains umoved because he knows those who haven’t received wholehearted joy into their lives can only be miserable, themselves. All the more reason to have his art, the artist believes, because all cries from fear are all calls for inspiration – what the artist considers the literal embodying of heaing energies that come from the literal action of inspiring, otherwise known as breathing or breathwork as practiced by spiritual masters, yoga practitioners, and other sages of great eternal wisdom.
Scotland paints various sizes of abstract canvases with many layers of paint and varnish often characterized by his signature style of painterly, jagged “volts” of colors. The flame-like shards and blasts of color are often overlapping each other and trail off the canvas, continuing the painting “beyond the frame,” or sides of the piece, and also continuing into its own depths within the canvas. Scotland insists that there are five styles that have both connection and relevance to his mature, signature look. To the critics, he says, "Well, it’s my work, not anyone else’s. I decide what it is, if it is art, and not anyone else. Anyone else’s opinion, to me, has no bearing on the creative process, therefore anyone else’s opinion about me or my work is totally irrelevant and probably the beginnings of pipe dreams and specious arguments by lower frequency persons who are just like the walking dead. Jesus has a few words to say about those people and I happened to agree with His advice: ‘Let the dead bury the dead.’ I mean, they’re not happy anyway, which is sad.”
Scotland prefers his paintings of Companionism to be exhibited in groups with one master Companion resonating apart from the group in a separate location, like a parent safely watching over his children playing on the playground. He feels that his paintings can only be understood by spiritually advanced people who calibrate at a level of 310 or above on the Map of Human Consciousness developed by David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D., and further scientific studies have corroborated that his paintings do, in fact, bring the viewer into balance as a result of increased theta wave production.
Thus, each “companion” is part of a whole, with the whole being the resonating frequency of unconditional love that emanates from his entire body of work. This obsession with maintaining absolute alignment with energy that calibrates at or above 500 has resulted in his rejection of offers to buy his paintings by certain patrons, museums, and curators, and refusing what he considers to be specious awards and honors, and declining invitations to hyped interviews, media appearances, and exhibition opportunities with anyone who does not calibrate at level 310 or above. He remains unwavering in his focus, incapable of being swayed by anyone at all, especially irrelevant are those who sadly calibrate below 310.
And it is not because the artist thinks they are irrelevant and do not matter as human beings, but rather that those people have chosen, of their own accord, to remain at lower frequencies and think of themselves as irrelevant and worthless. Thus, they experience life with negativity, zero optimism, and qualities of fear, envy, jealousy, pride, anger, sloth, desire, grief, apathy, guilt, and shame, depression, delusion, and insanity. Says Scotland, "Frankly, those things are not my audience. I deal with people who know they're alive and who value willingness, acceptance, reason, love, joy, peace, and enlightened wisdom of pure consciousness. Nothing else matters and no one else matters. Love does not condemn, criticize, or complain and I will not use the creative muse that runs through me to expose violence, hatred, prejudice, or ignorance. I will not do it. I am here to join with people in remembering ALL of WHO we REALLY are. That's it."
Lady Sascha Siegel, the former personal design coordinator for First Lady Jackie Kennedy and design coordinator for President Kennedy’s Oval Office, quickly won over Scotland's trust and admiration along with four others belonging to the group of his first five art patrons: Dr. Eugene and Janice Ephron with their daughter and son in law. All five had finally convinced Scotland, at his first official art reception, of both the maturity and importance of his work. Scotland allowed Sascha two paintings, Dr. and Mrs. Ephron two paintings, and their daughter and her husband four paintings. Scotland’s manager, Randall Blaum, finally convinced the artist to agree to a rare and first of its kind live performance exhibition as the launch of the World Premiere of Scotland’s art movement, Companionism, at the Portland Art Museum in 2006.
Pleased with Lady Siegel’s and Dr. and Mrs. Ephron’s reception of his work, in 2005 Scotland allowed fourteen paintings to be received by Portland Habitat for Humanity’s fourteen families of that year’s buildsite, the master Companion in Scotland’s private collection to be placed, in time, in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Scotland included an array of works spanning the complete range of his signature styles, including three “chakra” pieces in the resonant hues of red, blue, and yellow which, together, vibrate at the frequencies of what in music theory is called “the chord of nature” when played by the tones and overtones of the C-major chord with scale degrees of 1,3,5,1 (C,E,G,C).
This “chord of nature” resonates at the frequency human beings recognize as unconditional love, setting about a sympathetic resonant frequency pattern within the environment conducive to higher states of consciousness, improved strength, coordination, and balance, to name a few. According to the terms of the artist, the paintings must be exhibited in a “family” of companions, all of the time, allowing them to resonate together and envelop the families in a “protective force-field” of higher energies the artist calls “the Source of Resonance” loosely translated as the energy of prayer, grace, joy, gratefulness, and loving blessings.
Several of Scotland’s paintings have been requested by Arizona State University to undergo further scientific testing at their labs which are considered to be among some of the premiere physics labs in the world.
Scotland is the founder of the 21st Century art movement Companionism™ that uses what he calls Quantum Aesthetics™ as their method of creation.
